Usually I break even on the slot machines. Or I lose $33 and waste 45 minutes. So I went to the Potluck Pig and did slots in sets of ten, recording the outcomes to try and make sense of the statistical likelihood of winning. I did this twice, for a total of 200 spins. Each set cost $30, therefore a "win" is anything greater than $30, and a "loss" is less than $30.
The number on the left is the set of ten's number, and the number on the right is total winnings from that set of ten.

On the first set, I lost money. On the second one, I gained money, mostly due to a $420 (and two fives) on turn eight. Depending on whether or not you want to count this outlying data point, it seems that you usually break even, give or take, and depend on rare jackpots to actually make money.
Several questions: What is the largest jackpot you guys have won?
Is there any difference between the slots at the casino and the Potluck Pig?
What do your statistics look like?
